Dry Mounting a Photo using Peel & Stick Boards

Our Peel & Stick mounting boards are made of 3/16″ foam boards coated with a thin, aggressive layer of pressure sensitive adhesive protected with a release sheet. Pressure sensitive adhesives (peel & stick) need a clean environment for application. As the release sheet is removed to expose the adhesive a small static charge may draw tiny dust particles. Please wipe down your working area to ensure a clean working area.

Step 1

Carefully separate the release cover sheet from one corner of the coated board and continue to lift about 1 inch of the release liner. When about 1 inch of adhesive is exposed along one edge, crease the release liner at the separation. This will allow the graphic to be mounted to rest away from the exposed adhesive in the next step.

Step 2

Place the graphic face up on the board/release paper and line up the graphic. The image will be held off of the exposed adhesive (step 1) by the creased release liner. Lightly push the graphic down onto the exposed adhesive beginning in the center then gently work the adhesive left and right so the first inch of graphic in now in contact with the exposed adhesive along one edge.

Step 3

Peel back the release sheet slowly and allow the graphic to fall onto the exposed adhesive. When done correctly the graphic will fall without bubble or wrinkles. Wipe the graphic with a soft cloth or rubber roller to gain improved contact with the adhesive. Practice a few times with scrap material. This is not a difficult procedure but it is much easier after a bit of practice.

Step 4

Trim if needed.

Notes

Most pressure sensitive adhesives “cross-link” or “cure” within 24 hours. Your graphic will be bonded as soon as contact is made, but the bond improves with age.

This is a permanent adhesive and is our default offering. We also offers repositionable pressure sensitive adhesive board.
